If you're sure Carnival is your line, look for a travel agent who specializes in trips with the brand. You want someone who understands all the little quirks that are unique to Carnival's cabin categories and, preferably, has done ship inspections to see the cabins firsthand. In other words, if you are sailing seven-night cruises, you will be Gold level on your fourth sailing, as you will be passing the 25-day mark on that sailing. Most vessels have standard North American-style, 110-volt outlets in rooms, as well as European-style, 220-volt outlets. Carnival allows you to bring one bottle of wine or Champagne per person onto ships at boarding plus up to a dozen standard cans or cartons of nonalcoholic drinks such as sodas.

The kids' room had two twin beds and a sofa that converted into a third bed.

As someone who values freedom and flexibility, I was initially hesitant about booking an interior room. But after doing some research, I realized that there are many different types of interior rooms to choose from, each with their own unique perks and benefits. The dining room features a Henrytimi dining table surrounded by Baker chairs under a pendant light that was custom-designed by Studio DADO and manufactured by Patrizia Volpato. The space opens into a private solarium where guests can stargaze on chaise lounges custom-designed by Studio DADO, made by Elledue, and upholstered in burnt orange Mokum alpaca velvet.

Whether you have 10 or 20 people in your group, there’s something to do and see even if everyone differs in age, abilities and interests. However, the Pullman beds, which are available in some Upper/Lower staterooms, may not be ideal for adults as they are smaller and less comfortable than the regular beds. Compared to other cabin types, Interior rooms are the cheapest and smallest on board. They are perfect for those who don’t plan to spend much time in their cabin and want to save money for other activities.

Mikhaila and Monica were both happy with the storage options in their rooms.

Many hotels we've checked into have stopped offering daily cleaning since the coronavirus pandemic began, but we enjoyed a clean bathroom and fresh towels every day on the Carnival Legend. That said, we highly recommend looking at the deck plans to see what is above and below your cabin. In our specific case, the noise from other areas of the ship was easily heard in the cabin. Our room was set extremely cold at night but the comforter kept us warm — borderline hot — while we slept.

I would say that a Porthole cabin isn’t worth paying any extra for compared to a standard Interior. Yes, you do get a tiny bit of natural light, but the thickness of the walls means that the amount is limited, as is the view. There’s no right or wrong answer on which is the best room on a Carnival cruise because it’s all dependent on the individual.

And on Carnival, some cabins labeled as inside actually have porthole windows for natural daylight (if not wide open seas). Suites on Carnival ships also haven't traditionally come with butlers and access to private concierge lounges like the suites on many other vessels. As noted above, Carnival ships generally don't offer a lot of suites. For the most part, the suites they have are relatively modest in size and amenities compared to the suites at some of the line's rivals. Note that, in a quirk of the cabin categorization system at Carnival, there are a few inside cabins on some Carnival ships that do, indeed, have a view to the outside world. These cabins either have an obstructed view (often due to lifeboats) or a porthole, such that the view isn't all that great.

Along with the mirror, the vanities in both the inside stateroom and extended balcony cabin also featured drawers under the counter and exposed shelving for additional storage. The drawers in the extended balcony stateroom appeared to be bigger than the ones in our inside cabin. Our inside cabin on Carnival Celebration, nestled on Deck 4, was considered a standard inside stateroom with 160 square feet of space.

The most affordable way to experience all the Carnival excitement, without cutting corners on comfort. She has worked in the cruise industry since 2015 and has taken over 30 cruises. Now, she helps over 1 million people per month to plan their perfect cruise holidays. But, if you aren’t going to feel cramped, or if you plan on barely spending any awake time in your cabin at all, then an Interior Room could be a really good option. They can be pretty cheap, depending on the itinerary and ship, and because they’re a little cosier you might even sleep better. The Havana Pool area has an exclusive swimming pool, two large hot tubs and a relaxation area with umbrellas, palm trees and comfy seating.

If you’re seeking value and don’t mind the absence of a view, an interior room is a fantastic choice. But if natural light is a must-have, consider rooms with portholes or even upgrading to an Ocean View stateroom. Whether you’re cruising as a single parent or times two with kids in tow, you’ll effortlessly pack in more fun activities and bonding time than you ever thought possible on vacation. No matter what age your kids, there’s plenty of onboard entertainment that lets your family interact with favorite childhood characters and games. An Interior Upper/Lower stateroom (category 1A) is one of the smallest rooms you can book at sea that isn’t a single cabin.

On many cruise ships, inside cabins are smaller than oceanview and balcony cabins. On Carnival Panorama, for instance, most inside cabins measure 185 square feet. That's the same size as the interior area of some oceanview and most balcony cabins on the ship (not including the extra square footage from the balcony). While they may be the cheapest and smallest rooms on board, they are perfect for those who prioritize budget and a good night’s sleep.

In 2023, 31.5 million vacationers boarded massive cruise ships teeming with all-you-can-drink piƱa coladas (if you got the beverage package) and all-you-can-eat shrimp cocktails. It's a fun-at-sea focus that has gone to new levels over the past two years with the debut of Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, each of which has — get this — a roller coaster on the top deck. At 800 feet in length, these aren't the biggest roller coasters ever. On the vast majority of Carnival ships, there's not just a single waterslide but a whole water park area. Dubbed WaterWorks, these areas vary in size and features from vessel to vessel. They typically have one or two big waterslides (sometimes three!), a play zone with interactive water features and a large, continuously filling dump bucket that periodically soaks everybody within range.

Picking a cabin on a Carnival Cruise Line ship isn't nearly as complicated as picking a cabin on, say, a Royal Caribbean or a Celebrity Cruises ship. However, the kids had no issues bringing their power strip into their cabin. Carnival's website says power strips without surge protectors are allowed, but ones that the crew deems hazardous will be removed and returned to the owner on the last day of the cruise before disembarkation. The good news is that the music ended at midnight, so it didn’t go on all night. The bad news is that if you are a light sleeper, the sound and vibration was more than enough to keep you from getting to sleep. The shower is a handheld wand shower, which raises and lowers to match anyone’s height.

The oldest Fantasy-class vessels have 28 suites and 26 junior suites. Design is more than just the way things look — it’s as much about how they work. And staterooms aboard Mardi Gras are packed with innovative changes to both. It’s the way the ring-lit vanity mirror lights you evenly and shadow-free as you get ready. And even those reading lights, recessed into the wall so you can read in bed without waking anyone! (Enough USB charging ports for everybody’s stuff? Oh yes!) Thoughtful, guest-centric design is how we do it… and all this in-room convenience comes paired with a fresh new look.

There is no controllable vent in the bathroom, so if you need to have some white noise while you go, we suggest turning the shower on low. You can also use one of our tips and head to a public bathroom on the ship if you don’t want smells to linger in the cabin. What stood out to us was that our room had two outlets and two spots for charging via USB.

Elizabeth graduated from New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute with her M.A. Growing up, she had the privilege of traveling frequently with her family and fell in love with cruising after sailing on the Oasis of the Seas her freshman year of high school. She wanted to pursue a career that highlighted her passion for travel and strengths as a writer. Before you are ready to place the deposit on your Carnival cruise, you will have to choose what cabin category you’d like to stay in for the duration of your voyage. Havana Interiors, designed in a luxurious Old Havana style, provide guests access to the exclusive Havana Pool area. With a plethora of choices, finding the ideal cabin can seem daunting.

You’re about to discover just what awaits you on a Carnival cruise. Start by exploring the incredible ports we visit… and the fun things to do, both on the ship and ashore. Carnival ships are all about fun, in a lively, let's-not-take-this-too-seriously sort of way. If you're sure you know what sort of cabin you want, on which ship, on which itinerary — and about a dozen other things — you can head over to Carnival.com to book directly. As you might expect, pricing for ships will generally be lower during offseason periods such as September, October and parts of November. Note that three of the line's newest ships — Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Venezia — do not have launderettes.
